Do You Have A Deathly Fear and Need Tips On Public Speaking?

I was surprised to find that fear of public speaking ranks higher than fear of death…aren’t you?
I have many clients that come to me for tips on public speaking because there is some reason that they are scared of it.
One of my clients is a personal trainer. He has amazing information that needed to get out to everyone possible but he came to me terrified of public speaking.
I found out that this fear stemmed from a report he had to give in fifth grade. Something went wrong with the report and the poor guy became the laughingstock of the class. This held him back from wanting to speak in public again.
Do you have a deathly fear and need tips on public speaking?
I taught my client that the impact you have on yourself is through the story you tell. You need to change the story…just don’t do it drastically. Don’t go from saying I’m scared of public speaking to saying I speak in front of millions of people…your mind won’t except this because it is too much of a jump.
My client and I worked on creating his story on an inner level and switching from saying I will never do public speaking to saying I will do public speaking for small, local groups.
I taught him how to do a Progressive Belief Shifting process. He decided to add music to his presentation to make it more fun for him. Being a coach he needed to relate to his audience and engage them the whole time he was in front of them.
In the back of the room he was selling a home study kit. He sold 50% of the room. This proves he was extremely effective in connecting with his audience.
When you need to do public speaking:
• Prepare yourself first on the topic you will be discussing
• Make it fun for both you and your audience
• Be confident in your knowledge
You have less to worry about when you are prepared for what you will be speaking about.
When it is fun for you it will be fun for the audience as well because you will be connecting with them.
Be confident in your knowledge and know that people are there because they want to hear what you have to say.

I’m not surprised how many people are scared of public speaking.
The problem is, we all think that we are the only ones with the fear.
I joined a speakers club about six years ago and have become pretty good at standing in front of an audience and looking relaxed.
Bottom line… we can all overcome the fear with practice in a safe environment.
Hey everyone, i blasted my credit file to bits as a youngster, trust me you really need it later in life, for a home a holiday
it scary me as hell even if i have to speak to very small audience, thanks for tips
You have an interesting point of view
Tips on public speaking … thank you for these good tips. It is for me indeed sometimes a big problem to speak to many peoples but if I have to choose between death and speaking I would take the second one
“When you need to do public speaking:” These 3 points are very good. In my case I would add: “What could happen worst – I would not die and life on” This kind of thinking helps me very much to conquer my fear.
Hi Sharon
“I was surprised to find that fear of public speaking ranks higher than fear of death…aren’t you?”
No I wasn’t… I’ve seen people tremble when they have to stand in front of an audience.
I’m sure that for many of us, the fear can be traced back to a specific event and we can rerun that event or even evaluate it as an adult.
Better still… stop thinking about the event and get some practice by joining a Speakers Club.
BTW Sharon thanks for using CommentLuv. I’ve just installed it on my Public Speaking site. If you get a few minutes, please come on over and leave a comment.
You have an interesting point of view
i remember when i was still in high school, i always fear public speaking engagments..’,
I think in one way making it fun for you and the audience is the most difficult part of the process. Especially at the start, no matter how well you are prepared you will always find yourself too stressed to think of anything else. The good news is, I think, that public speaking is not a gift and as you say, it can be mastered.
A good post.
Hi Pawel, relaxing before the speech or presentation, or even being able to do so is probably one of the key elements of preparation. If you can’t do it, it means that you’re not good at what you do. But you’re right, you can learn it though.
