As You Work to ‘Dress for Success’, How Important is it to Balance Both Your Masculine and Feminine Sides in Business?

I was recently coaching a woman with a prominent position in her company. We were discussing her desire to be more feminine as she tried to dress for success in her business experience.

The truth was, she was very apprehensive about being perceived as feminine.  She always dressed in pantsuits (the more ‘masculine’ attire) that were in basic, plain colors. She had some sort of horror instilled within her about being flashy.

I coached her that a woman can absolutely be fully feminine in business tastefully.  The real idea of having to ‘dress for success’ includes activating your feminine side and nurturing your employees with a combination of both masculine AND feminine qualities. Both aspects are key to being a great leader.

Never be afraid to be authentic in who you are. Wear jewelery or more color if you are comfortable that way.

I was listening to the Charlie Rose show recently, and they were discussing women balance and how women have a different approach to managing money, communicating, and collaborating.  There is a win-win energy that comes naturally to women.

In the end it all comes down to learning to manage the energy of your feelings.  You need to activate your skill sets and model them for those around you. There is no need to be perfect.  No one is perfect.  Everyone is a work in progress and you can constantly improve on yourself and your businesses and products.

Are you balancing your masculine and feminine sides in business?

• Hold the intention to model your best qualities for others, but give yourself a break at the same time.
• Balance with the masculine side of you to create boundaries, plan, make goals and ask for what you want. Find where your strengths are and where you need extra support.
• Ask others around you what qualities they think serve you and which ones don’t…then make sure to listen to the answers and take advice from these people.

Once you learn to balance the feminine qualities with the masculine qualities within you, everything you do in your career or business will be easier.
