Do You Know What is Unique About Your Own Business?

December 30, 2008 by Sharon Wilson

One of my favorite clients was a Minnesota family that owned a small car repair business.  When I was helping them explore and identify their uniqueness, they told me that they didn’t have anything that made them particularly unique.

Upon digging deeper, they shared that it was very important to them that their customers felt like family.

So they put homemade cookies on the car seat when the car was fixed, so that when you picked up your car, you got warm, fresh, home-baked sweets.

They would also pick up their customers and drive you to where they wanted to go while they fixed their cars. They even gave their customers a loaner car while they were doing repairs. They thought everyone did this, so they didn’t see it as unique!

They were genuinely caring, hospitable people who treated everyone like family.  Thus, who they are and what they have provided ever since they created their business 20 years ago became their Unique Serving Offer (USO).

“Joe’s auto repair shop, where we treat you like family – We pick you up, drop you off and leave fresh baked cookies on your car seat.”

As you read this story, what’s coming up for you?  What do you enjoy receiving?  What do you enjoy giving?  Are words – ideas – maybe even songs – coming to your mind?

What is unique about you? Read more

Do You Know What You Don’t Want for Your Own Business?

When you are creating something like an Action Plan for your own business, the foundational work of energy management can be one of the most important things that you can do to truly be able to achieve what it is that you want.

And in order to really get what you want, it is surprisingly helpful to first list what it is that you don’t want.

i.e. What I Don’t Want:

I don’t want to have to figure out how to create my own business and feel burdened to carry the load of creation and implementation by myself.

What I Don’t Want to Feel:

I don’t want to feel overwhelmed or stressed.  I don’t want to feel direction-less. I don’t want to feel like I am doing this by myself.

Getting all of these “Don’t Wants” out of your system helps you to both acknowledge that they are there, and to dissipate the energy that is around them.

When you have laid this at a foundational level, you can begin to think of the categories for creating your action plan, and begin another helpful foundational tool, the Order Form to the Universe.

The following examples may be some of the types of categories you would have in an Action Plan for your business:

  • My Attitudes/Perceptions
  • Advisory Board
  • Financial Resources/Financing
  • Paperwork and Legal Documentation
  • Location
  • Support Staff – Volunteer and Paid
  • Mission/Vision
  • Marketing
  • Fund raising Avenues
  • Time Frames

Creating Order Forms to the Universe goes hand in hand with creating your Action Plan – it is a complete integration of spiritual energy management that will help you detangle your energy and pre-pave all of the steps for the actions that you want to take.

The purpose of the Order Form to the Universe is for you to identify what you want and then watch for all the positive evidences of how the Universe will work to support you.  It is a customized way for you to identify exactly what you want in a way that will be absolutely perfect for you.

The Order Form to the Universe is an easy way of partnering with Spirit and surrendering your “I wants” to Spirit.

It allows for easy and effortless flow, so that you don’t have to work or push so hard for things, which tends to tempt you into thinking that you are suffering too much.

You can use the Order Form to the Universe as a tool to first determine, and then acquire what you want.

Check out the following Order Form example: Read more

How Do You Create the Foundation for Taking Action in Starting Your Own Business?

Yesterday I talked about making a 30-Day Action Plan for starting your own business.  The thing is, there are many layers to making a plan and taking action, and the stronger your foundation is, the greater your success will be.

If you are creating an Action Plan for your own business, it is a good idea to always make sure to include the following foundational steps – taking the time to create what I call an Energy Blueprint:

First, surface up the energy that you have activated about whatever goal or project you want to work on.  No matter what it is, it’s OK.

You are going to write down the beliefs, patterns, evidences, and actions - anything that’s serving you about your business.

Next, identify the beliefs that may not be serving you as well.  Drill them down! You will write these down as well.

Following that, you will create one new progressive belief – something that makes you feel just a little bit better.

You can use what I call a Merry-Go-Round visualization to assist you in emerging a progressive belief by imaging a Merry-Go-Round in a children’s park.

When you are on this kind of Merry-Go-Round, you have to run around in a circle, holding onto the bars until you have gathered enough momentum, or energy, to jump on.

If you don’t have enough momentum you won’t be able to get on.

If you are running too fast and try to jump on, you may get tossed further by the momentum. You will be able to visualize through this if you are a vibrational match to the progressive belief by seeing and feeling in this visualization if you got “On” the Merry-Go-Round.

After you have emerged a progressive belief, you will use that new belief daily in an energy management tool called Scripting. Read more

Do You Ever Feel so Tangled up That You Can’t Move Forward in Your Own Business?

Baby Steps
What’s the Best way to Move Forward?

Just over a year ago, my family and I experienced the serious illness of my Mom, and all my brothers and sisters had to deal with this situation together.

Everything was ambiguous and we didn’t know what was going to happen for sure.  We couldn’t even make plans.

What I needed to keep saying to all of the others was, “You know, we just have to take this one step at a time.  We don’t know what the end result is going to be.

We don’t even know what’s going to happen from moment to moment because it’s all uncertain.  So what we need to do is soften this whole experience, right?

Would you agree that no matter what happens we’re going to have to deal with it in the moment?  But we can soften it a little bit by acknowledging that right now, here is where we are.

“What we have to do is understand that we can’t fix this right now”.

I said this in front of all our family members.  “Can we all be Ok with the fact that we can’t fix this right now? Can we all agree that right now we can’t fix this?”

They were like, “Yeah.  OK, then what can we do?  Where can we find our place of power even now in what seems like a place of no power.”

This was the softening that we all needed to cope with the unknown and still be in the present to take action as needed.

You will often find yourself in situations in life or in your own business or career where you are in a point of what I call tangled energy. It’s like you’re in the middle of a big knot and you can’t get out and you can’t go farther because you’re just stuck!

When you feel that way, try the following steps for detangling your energy.  You won’t be able to move beyond a blockade in your own business, or even forward to managing your energy around it until you are able to first smooth out the knot! Read more

What Does it Mean to be a Spiritualpreneur in Your Own Business?

Holding hands with a child from the Miracle Fo...
The call to hold someone’s hand…

Spiritualpreneurs are people that are really feeling called to do some kind of business, but in a different way than business is “normally” done.

I want to make it clear - being a Spiritualpreneur doesn’t have anything do to with having a “spiritual” kind of business – a healer, massage therapist, acupuncturist, psychic reader, etc. – those type of professions that are more “spiritually” oriented.

That’s not what being a Spiritualpreneur is about!

A Spiritualpreneur might be someone that owns a franchise, or works in the stock market, or someone that is also a mom-preneur.

It’s not about what you DO.

It is about HOW you want to experience your own business.

Spiritualpreneurs are those that recognize that business is just as important to run from an Inner level as it is from an Outer level. They are people that want to apply Universal Principles in their business because they can see the peace and success that it brings.

Spiritualpreneurs are people that have some sort of calling inside them to do something more – to make a difference – to serve others in a way that is beyond the sole goal of making money or attaining success.

I have had the opportunity to work with Spiritualpreneurs in many varied lines of business.

I worked with a Vice President of a bank that really felt a calling to serve people; she thought about doing volunteer work or changing her career.  She actually ended up in one of my coaching programs and now consistently has clients!

It’s not only an extra added income stream for her, but it fulfills her desires and she likes what she’s doing.

One person that I started working with recently went through cancer.  She is in remission and healed from the cancer, but one thing she noticed was that there wasn’t really a lot of support for cancer patients after all the treatments happened.

There can be long-term, residual physical issues from the ways of treating cancer.  And this woman saw that there was really a need to work with people, to support them and hold their hand after they’ve gone through that journey. Read more

Do You See Paying the Bills as a Joyful Part of Running Your Own Business?

If you don’t, you should!

What are some steps you can take to make the bill-paying experience feel more joyful?

I like to put on red lipstick and kiss my checks, and imagine the love in that money going out to those people and more money coming back to me.

I actually have this statement printed on my own business checks:  “Prosperity in huge amounts flows to you and comes back to me”.

How would you feel about writing something like that on your checks?

It’s like playing a game that’s all about getting into a relationship with this idea of money that goes out and then comes back to you.

You can actually bless it as it goes out and expect that it comes back to you in even more amazing ways! Read more

How Will Your Own Business Change When You Have a True Sense of Those That You Want to Serve?

What Gets You Out of Bed in the Morning?

Do you have a sense of your Ideal Client activated in you?

Do you have an understanding of how important it is in your own business to KNOW who your Ideal client is?

Try the following visioning exercise that will help you understand how really knowing and activating from an Inner level who your ideal client is and how you are going to work with them can be incredibly powerful in your business:

Imagine what you will feel like when you are reaching ten new people a week. Feel the energy of this - sense the energy and let it become a part of you now.

How will your life change when you reach this many?

Now, imagine 25 new people a week with your work.  You may be doing your work in a whole different way as you are reaching more and more people.

If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by this idea, just know that the ways you will leverage and systemize what you’ll be doing and the ways that you’ll be reaching out to people will absolute fit for you so you’ll have balance and joy.

Continue imagining and feeling more and more…50…100…even more people.

Feel yourself smiling as the lights easily go on.  Imagine testimonials flowing in and people loving your work - and you – and telling many, many others about you. Read more

Do You Understand the Importance of Making Wise Investments for Your Own Business During These Times?

337/365: The Big Money
Are you Investing in Your Own Business?

Many people are finding right now that it’s necessary to make adjustments in where they are allocating their resources, and it is very useful at any time to get even more clear on what you are spending in your own business so that you can allocate your resources to whatever is going to serve you the most.

It just might be that there’ll be certain projects that you’re going to put on the back burner, because they’re just not as important from a priority standpoint.

This is really something that is useful to be doing all the time, but I know that business owners tend to get more into the bigger picture sometimes and not so much the nitty gritty, day to day, week to week aspects of where they are really spending money.

The thing is, while it’s important to have the strength and confidence to maybe put off some projects that you may be really excited about, but maybe just aren’t the best thing to be spending resources on right now – it’s equally as important to have the strength and confidence to continue to invest in those things that will help your business move forward to greater success.

I like to evaluate, on a weekly basis:

  • What am I allocating my resources to?
  • Are there other ways I can better leverage those resources?
  • Are there investments that would really make more sense for me now to?

I recently made the decision to invest in an online Project Management system.  My team and I researched the costs, the benefits, how it would assist the business in streamlining everyone’s work together, and at the end of all this, I decided to make the investment.

If you have your own business, and you’re hunkering down – trying to weather the storm – and you’re not willing to put resources into anything right now, it’s probably not going to do you much good in the long run!

The key opportunity that times like these bring around is that they really force you to focus on what is necessary and what is unnecessary.  The thing is, you can swing both ways in your own business.  You can throw money at every idea that comes up, or you can refuse to spend a penny on anything beyond the bare necessities.

Neither of those attitudes are going to get you to the success that you are looking for!  That is why you need to know how to manage your business from both an Inner and Outer level.  If you are managing at an Inner, or energetic level, you can more clearly make those decisions regarding investments.

You will be calm and aligned at an energetic level with whatever steps you want to take, which will make those steps even more effective!

There’s a lot of thinking outside the box going on right now – people are turning to new ways of allocating their resources and even new ways of using their current employees.

Do You Have a Powerful Vision of Success for Your Own Business?

An African Elephant resting his head on a tree...
He may be hiding, but he’s still there!

Whatever actions you wish to take in your own business – whatever steps to make it successful, it is important to first lay a foundation for your actions at an energetic level.

One of the ways you can do this is through creating what I call a Magnetic Vision.

Do you have a Vision for success in your own business?

One thing that is imperative to begin with is that it’s really got to be OK, no matter what you are feeling.   Some people say, “I don’t want to focus on what I don’t want”.

Why?

It’s there anyway.  It’s like the pink elephant in the living room that someone tossed a blanket over. It’s still there!  Simply make peace with it and let it be of use and value.

You’re never clearer about what you want than when you’re focused on something you don’t want.

You’re driving a car that doesn’t seem to be running well or looking very great.  You’re very clear.  You want a car that runs well and looks great.

It can be about anything.  You can really shift the perception that it’s OK however you’re feeling.  It’s OK if you’re focused on what you don’t want temporarily.  Ultimately, this helps you get clearer on what you do want so that you can put it together in a way that’s a structured Vision that you can take action on as well.

Please have fun with this! This is where you’re really in the play and the joy of it and where the Vision becomes very, very real.

Often times when I’ve seen visions and I’ve done them myself, they’ve been all over the place.   I used to think of myself, “OK - that’s great, but how do I get there?  How do I get that to really happen?” It just felt very scattered.

For myself I needed something where I felt more structured, where I am clear – this is what it would look like and these would be the components of each of these categories.  It really, really assisted me.  You can always then add to or redo the Vision as you feel led.

It’s a fairly simple formula to create your Magnetic Vision for your business: Read more
